27 Jun Paleo life: my new little kind of religion
Yesterday I read on facebook the following: „When did sex, drugs and rock’n roll became veganism, lactose intolerance and Helene Fischer?“ Ok the last one might be only funny for all my german readers, but anyway I assume you get the message.
More and more there are also people that tell you they are on a paleo diet. And since almost two months I’m one of them.
For me paleo is not just a diet, it has become a lifestyle.
Probably some of you might have no clue what paleo is all about. So here is a quick explanation.
What does paleo mean?
Paleo is also known as the primal lifestyle.
Actually it’s pretty easy, we just try to eat like our paleolithic ancestors. But no worry a paleo lifestyle doesn’t mean that you have to live like cave-men did. First and foremost it is about fully-fledged nutrition and avoiding processed, refined and nutrient-poor food. In the beginning this sounds difficult and I was afraid too, but it actually isn’t very complicated.
What can you eat when on a paleo-diet?
The plain theory says avoid products made of grains (e.g. bread, pasta, cereals etc.), pasteurized milk, processed oils (e.g. rapeseed oil), sugar and artificial sweetener particularly corn syrup. To bring it down, something that has seen a factory, before being something esculent is actually no food. It is more an eatable product, that includes many anti-nutritive substances.
TRY TO AVOID: | MAINLY YOU SHOULD EAT: |
---|---|
grain products | vegetables |
leguminous plants | fruits |
milk products | nuts & seeds |
sugar | fish & meat |
highly processed vegetable fats/oils | eggs |
artificial food additives | healthy fats |
When I first read that bread is completely canceled, I was sad because I thought of a sunday morning breakfast without fresh warm buns… oh and the nutella that I love on my buns was cancelled too… and the milk in my coffee. OMG!!
Benefits of a paleo lifestyle
But I wanted to give it a try. My main motivation was first (!) to get finally the abs/sixpack I was craving for so long. Now I know there are far more benefits than looking great. It really does a lot for your health. Our usual nutrition based on processed food, sugar etc. is the main reason for the high number of diseases like obesity, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular function, depression and auto-immune diseases.
And after 2 months I can say I simply feel much better. I used to be tired regularly, now I feel really awake and full of energy. Also my digestion got so much better. My body tolerates paleo food much better than the food I used to eat.
I will keep you guys updated on my paleo travel! I want to show you what my usual meal schedule looks like, tell you about my results and other interesting stuff around this lifestyle.
Anyone else that has already tried going paleo or someone who has a special question? Tell me what you think about it!
